Regular cleaning can ensure that the panels remain scratch free and in good condition.  What you use to clean your tonneau cover is very important.  It’s a good thing that the Bakflip G2, HD and F1 do not require special cleaning agents for maintenance.  To clean, you can wash with mild soap, water and a sponge, or you can go to a drive through carwash to have your tonneau cleaned with your entire pickup truck.  You just need to skip the waxing and instead, opt for protectants like 303 or Armorall.
